Assets under management

The portfolio is the centrepiece of the Stockholm Student Investment Fund (SSIF), representing both a professional responsibility and a core educational tool. As one of the few student-run funds in Europe managing real capital, SSIF offers its members a rare opportunity to apply academic knowledge in real-time market conditions. The fund manages capital entrusted to it by the Student Association at the Stockholm School of Economics (SASSE), which remains the rightful owner of the funds. SSIF is responsible for managing this capital under strict internal governance and professional standards. With this responsibility comes a dual mandate: to deliver long-term, sustainable returns while providing an exceptional hands-on learning experience for students.

The portfolio is managed by the Fund’s Investment Committee, which is composed of the President, Vice-President, and Heads of Fund, alongside the Sector Heads who lead the research groups.

Investment Philosophy

SSIF operates as a non-speculative investment fund with an investment strategy that entails adopting a long-term, value-oriented, and research-driven approach. Alongside this strategy, the Fund also adheres to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards. SSIF does not invest in companies or industries that clearly breach its ethical guidelines or sustainability standards. SSIF aims to deliver sustainable risk-adjusted returns by identifying high-conviction investment ideas globally, conducting extensive research, and investing in high-quality assets with solid fundamentals, fair valuation, and high ethical standards, encompassing a diverse range of holdings across the global market. The Fund avoids speculative or short-term trading strategies, instead seeking to identify high-conviction investment opportunities through rigorous analysis. Each investment is underpinned by detailed research, internal discussion, and a strong rationale for its inclusion in the portfolio. As an active fund, beating the benchmark index is a key target.

Portfolio Construction

The SSIF portfolio is globally diversified and sector-based, constructed to balance risk and opportunity across industries and geographies. Sector teams are responsible for staying abreast of industry developments, generating investment ideas, and conducting in-depth equity research. Coverage may vary from year to year depending on member interest and market dynamics, but commonly includes areas such as Technology, Consumer Goods & Services, Financial Institutions and Industrials.

While the decision to invest in or divest from a company is made democratically, through a majority vote within the Investment Committee, ultimate responsibility for portfolio construction and management lies with the Heads of Fund. They hold the final say on key aspects such as position sizing, sector exposure, risk management, and overall portfolio strategy. This ensures that the Fund remains coherent, balanced, and aligned with its long-term investment philosophy.

The Investment Committee plays a critical role in vetting individual investment ideas through collaborative discussion and a structured pitching process, but the Heads of Fund shape how those approved ideas are implemented within the portfolio. The Presidium, consisting of the President, Vice-President, and Heads of Fund, supports this process by ensuring strategic alignment, continuity, and adherence to the Fund’s values and mission.

The portfolio is intentionally concentrated, allocating capital to a limited number of high-conviction positions backed by thorough analysis and internal discussion. This focused approach fosters accountability, deepens learning, and reflects SSIF’s commitment to quality over quantity in all investment decisions.
